About FIRST

FIRST Robotics

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an exciting collaboration between schools and industry.  It brings together engineering professionals, students, advisors and local businesses with the goal of building the best robot for competition.  Besides the general teamwork and leadership opportunity common to school clubs, FIRST gives participants direct exposure to the engineering disciplines.  It’s a bridge to success for those gifted with their hands or their heads.

FIRST Success Stories from Team Power Cord

  • Kyle Buono, Team Power Cord alumnus, writes “I am on a plan to graduate college in four years with a BS in Engineering Management and a minor in Aerospace Engineering.  I had a good start my first semester with a full schedule of 18 credits.”  Kyle was introduced to engineering through FIRST Robotics.  Read the letter from Power Cord Alumnus Kyle Buono.
  • Several other Middlesex graduates are now studying engineering, after their involvement with FIRST.  They include Tim Diehl (Mechanical Engineering), Ozzie Da Silva (Computer or Electrical Engineering), Joe Rogers (Biomedical Engineering), Shane Donovan (Aerospace Engineering), Greg Creighton, Joe Lally, Victor Lopez, and Kevin Weigert (Architecture).
  • Power Cord members don’t wait until they graduate to do great things.  Besides promoting engineering, they’re also involved in community service.  Read a letter thanking the Power Cord Team for their community service.
  • Power Cord inspired the creation of a FIRST Lego League team at our middle school.  Power Cord members served as student mentors.  See the certificate of recognition presented to Power Cord by Mauger Lego Lunatics:
